Choosing your Avocados

When choosing your avocados, look for scrumptious Hass avocados. They are understood for their velvety texture, have an unique bumpy skin and are readily available year-round.

To figure out the ripeness of a Hass avocado, carefully squeeze the fruit-a ripe fruit will accept mild pressure. Hass avocados will likewise turn dark green to black as they ripen.

If you are purchasing avocados for future use, purchase company fruit.  Avoid fruit with external blemishes.

Ripening

To ripen a Hass avocado, place the fruit in a paper bag with an apple for 2 to 3 days at room temperature level (apples accelerate the procedure by producing ethylene gas, a ripening agent).

Storing

Mash the avocado, adding 1/2 tsp.  You can refrigerate the mix for up to 2 days or store in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Handling

Like all fruit, wash the avocado prior to cutting.

Cut the avocado lengthwise around the seed.

Twist the halves in opposite instructions to separate.

Slip a spoon in between the seed and the fruit and work the seed out.

Slip a spoon in between the fruit and the skin and scoop away from the peel.
